General Questions

What is Roots Health Gambia?

Roots Health Gambia is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2020 by four Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) with Gambian heritage. Our mission is to enhance quality anesthesia and surgical service delivery in The Gambia through collaboration, compassion, and community support.

We work to improve healthcare outcomes by providing medical equipment, training healthcare professionals, and organizing medical missions to support healthcare facilities across The Gambia.

Why focus on anesthesia and surgical services?

Safe anesthesia is critical for surgical procedures, yet many healthcare facilities in The Gambia lack proper anesthesia equipment and trained professionals. By focusing on this specialized area, we can make a significant impact on surgical outcomes and patient safety.

Our founders' expertise as CRNAs allows us to provide targeted, high-quality support that directly addresses one of the most critical gaps in The Gambia's healthcare system.

Where is The Gambia?

The Gambia is a small West African country, surrounded by Senegal except for its coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. It's the smallest country on mainland Africa, with a population of approximately 2.5 million people.

Despite its small size, The Gambia faces significant healthcare challenges, particularly in rural areas where access to quality medical care is limited. This is where our work makes the greatest impact.

Some volunteers choose to fundraise to cover their expenses. We can provide fundraising support and tax-deductible donation receipts for their supporters.
